In the community

Some of what this post does has nothing to do with being a veteran, and everything to do with living here.

The food kitchen

The post has made a commitment to help at Martha's Kitchen, 300 West Street, Hollister, every Tuesday. Sign-up starts at 1115 and food starts at 1130. It is the most regular commitment the post keeps, and the easiest one to join: turn up, and someone will put you to work.

The kitchen serves every weekday, so any day you can help is appreciated. Tuesdays are the day the post promised, so those matter most. If you can only manage some, come on the ones you can. It is closed on federal holidays.

If you went, tell the Adjutant how long you were there and who else was there. The post logs volunteer hours for the state, and can only count the ones it hears about. Call the post, or use the contact form and choose "Volunteer hours".

Baseball

The post plays ball with local special needs groups. It is exactly as good a day as it sounds, and we need people who can help run a game more than we need people who can hit.

The Special Heroes Carnival

A carnival for special needs kids, run with volunteers from around town. Members work booths, set up, and break down at the end.

It takes a lot of hands for one day. If you can spare that day, the post will find you something to do.

Getting involved

None of this needs a skill you do not already have. Call the post, or say so at a meeting, and someone will tell you when the next one is.
