Who we are
VFW Post 9242 is a chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Our members served overseas — in Vietnam, in Korea, in the Gulf, in the Balkans, in Iraq and Afghanistan, and in operations that never made the evening news.
The Vietnam generation built most of what this post has, and they are still the backbone of it. But the door is open to every era, and the newer members are not guests here. If you came home from somewhere and you are wondering whether this is your kind of place, it is.
What the post does
The visible work is the Honor Guard, the Buddy Poppy drive, the student scholarships, and the memorial tiles.
The less visible work is a service officer helping someone through a benefits claim, a relief payment that keeps a family's lights on, and somebody driving a member to an appointment. That work does not get written up anywhere, and it is most of what a post is for.
How the post is run
Members elect officers each year, and every officer is a volunteer. The offices are the standard VFW ones — Commander, Senior and Junior Vice Commander, Quartermaster, Adjutant, Chaplain, Judge Advocate, Surgeon, Officer of the Day, Service Officer and three Trustees — plus a Coordinator who runs the Honor Guard detail.
See who currently holds which office.
Post business is decided at the monthly membership meeting, which any member in good standing can attend and speak at. It is the second Thursday of every month at 1830, 2nd floor.

The Auxiliary
The VFW Auxiliary is open to eligible family members of those who qualify for VFW membership, and it does a great deal of the work around here. Ask at the post about joining.
